Abstract: A Cuban and Canadian Wildlife Federation census, conducted from 21 January to 14 February 1998, established Cayo Paredón Grande as one of Cuba’s most important wintering habitats for the Piping Plover (Charadrius melodus). This was the first research effort in Cuba and the Caribbean using color-coded plastic bands to determine the species’ migration routes.
