Abstract: Food habits of Tyto alba furcata (aves: Strigiformes), with ecological implications in Cuba- Pellets obtained from several towns in the central provinces of Villa Clara and Cienfuegos are analyzed, as well as from other areas of the national territory, but in smaller amounts. Rodents of the genera Mus and Rattus constitute the basic diet of this bird, especially Mus, with amphibians (Hylidae: Osteopillus) and birds (Passeriformes) following in order of importance. The Barn Owl diet is opportunistic, with seasonal fluctuations in the volume of the different prey items. The effect of Barn Owl predation on Cuba’s natural ecosystems is very important and its protection should be encouraged and awareness raised about its natural role.
